RAFCTE is best known for staging the world renowned Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire each year. In 2003, RIAT was granted status as the largest military air show globally by Guinness World Records. In addition to the heads of many of the world’s air forces and major suppliers to the sector, RIAT also hosts thousands of aviation enthusiasts and members of the public over three days. As well as aviation the event is increasingly a family day out, with the exceptional Techno Zone® providing unique interactive STEM activities, under the banner of RAFCT’s mission to inspire young people to fulfil their potential in air, space and technology. In total, over 200,000 people attended RIAT in 2024.
An opportunity has arisen to join our Ground Operations Department.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and deliver the interfaces between the following RIAT Primary Event Smartsheet's:
- The Key Events Schedule
- The Health and Safety Executive Health and Safety File (referred to as the RIAT Client Requirement, which details all showground and supporting area project builds)
- The Construction Phase Plan (CPP)
- The Functional Safety Schedule
- MS Project master Programme
- Supporting the Head of Ground Operations, Ground Operations Manager with the weekly, through-year coordination of all RIAT projects with the responsible/accountable owners. This covers from initial planning to take-down post-event.
- Maintenance of the interdependencies between the CPP and multiple supplier schedules including:
- Major marquee and tented structures
- Dining facilities
- Event power generation and distribution
- Air conditioning
- Fencing and barrier
- Grandstands and specialist marquees
- Fresh water provision
- Public and accommodation ablutions
- Plumbing and waste
- Trackway
- Cabins
- IT and communications
- Coordinate project information pertaining to the event CAD Maps for:
- Build Phase
- Load-in and departures day
- Public show days
- Coordination of Ground Operations’ elements in support of sustainability policies and data requests
- Administration of all supplier Method Statements and Risk Assessments required as a condition of access to RIAT, as supplier of goods and services to Ground Ops.
- Coordinate the Site Reception facility and Site Induction process using bespoke IT systems
- Assist the Ground Operations Team with CAD
- Assist the Health and Safety Team with the development of the CDM plan
- Assist with Structure sign off when required
Type of contract/working hours:
Permanent - Full time
36.25 hours per week. All employees are required to work the Saturday or Sunday before the Royal International Air Tattoo and the whole weekend of the event.
What we will offer:
A salary between £23,000-£25,000 per annum is accompanied by pension and a focus on staff wellbeing and social events throughout the year.
You will also be given two complimentary tickets to The Royal International Air Tattoo and a staff discount of 50% for an additional six.
About you:
If you have strong organisational skills, able to multitask with good oral and written communication we would strongly encourage you to apply.
You must be computer literate and have experience working with MS Office, also able to demonstrate that you can manage high workloads and be a strong team player. CAD mapping or equivalent is essential and event management experience would be beneficial. A full UK driving licence is required.
