About the role:
The Air Facilities Team are responsible for ensuring all facilities, infrastructure and vehicles used by all the Air Operations volunteer teams are in a fit condition for use throughout RIAT. This includes the Flight Centre, Briefing Hangar, Crew Club, Aviation Support Headquarters, Aircraft Engineering Cabins, Aircraft Fuels Headquarters, VIP Air Terminal, Air Traffic Control Tower and Flying Control Committee Tower.
This includes the building of these facilities ahead of the show including siting of infrastructure as per the layout plan, coordinating delivery of hired equipment and positioning of furniture and signage etc. Maintenance of the facilities and supporting their users throughout the week following daily checklists and problem solving as required. Finally support the breakdown of facilities, inventory and return of equipment post event.
The role requires good practical and problem-solving skills, good physical fitness, an ability to communicate and a willingness to provide generic support to many users.
Main Responsibilities will include:
- Build of facilities
- Collection of furniture/equipment from ISO Container storage and transportation to required location
- Liaison with Ground Operations team to ensure Portacabins, Marquees and other infrastructure is correctly sited, as per CAD Layout Plan
- Arrange furniture/equipment and build facilities, as per agreed laydown plans
- Liaison with IT & Comms Team to ensure timely installation of telephones and computers, as per agreed laydown plans
- Ensure temporary livery, and specialist vehicle equipment (such as lightbars and radios) are fitted to correct vehicles for Air Operations volunteer teams use
- Daily Facility Management:
- Conduct visits to each facility, following a morning checklist to ensure facility is unlocked and ready for use each day
- General duties to ensure all facilities remain fully operational, clean and operational teams have the resources required for safe & efficient operations
- Oversight of car parking arrangements for Flight Centre, as required
- Ensuring supplies of consumables (Water, Tea, Coffee, Milk, Sugar, Squash etc) are available facilities, and when required, restocking supplies
- Conduct visits to each facility, following an evening checklist to ensure facility is reset as required
- Breakdown of facilities:

- Liaison with IT Comms Team to ensure timely removal of telephones and computers
- Dissemble facilities and collate furniture/equipment, ready for collection
- Inventory checks of RIAT equipment, before transportation of furniture/equipment, to ISO Container storage
- Removal of temporary livery from hire vehicles, as required

- Generic support to Air Operations team, to assist with ad-hoc requirements
- On-Call requirement, for any ad-hoc out-of-hour taskings to support other teams
Requirement commitment:
- This role involves manual handling therefore, a good level of physical fitness is required
- This role will include working in multiple locations across the airfield therefore, a full driving licence is required and ideally experience working on an operational airfield
- Two of this team will start on Saturday 12th July (PM), and finish on Monday 21st July (AM). (Focusing on the build and operation of facilities)
- The other two members of this team will start on Tuesday 15th July (PM), and finish on Wednesday 23rd July (PM). (Focusing on the operation and breakdown of facilities)
- During the RIAT week, a shift system will be in place to ensure cover throughout periods of operation (this will include ‘on-call’ for out-of-hours taskings for at least one evening during the week)

Travel:
In line with our sustainability commitment, we strongly encourage volunteers to car share wherever possible and/or to utilise public transport.
The following is in place to support our volunteers with any out-of-pocket expenses.
- Motor Mileage: Claim 45p per mile (maximum 315 miles) return mileage to RIAT and to encourage car sharing, an additional 5p per additional passenger may be claimed by the vehicle driver.
- Train Fare: Travel should be standard class; reimbursement will be made up to the maximum claim amount (£100.00) on the production of receipts, tickets, or confirmation email.
