C-160D - Germany
Now very much a veteran of the Luftwaffe, the twin-turboprop Transall C-160D (its name a contraction of the name of the Franco-German consortium that produced it, Transport Allianz) soldiers on as a vital asset, even 53 years after the first prototype's maiden flight. The type is now being succeeded by the Airbus A400M, but has remained busy on taskings in support of German forces around the world, not least in Afghanistan.
