Antonov An-30 Clank - Romania
Making a very welcome appearance on static display at RIAT 2022 will be an Antonov An-30 from the Romanian Air Force. Designated as the Clank by NATO, the An-30 was developed in the late 1970s by the Soviet Union from the An-24 Coke transport aircraft as a specialised photo cartography and reconnaissance platform. Differing from the Coke with its bulbous glazed nose and raised cockpit section, the Clank is fitted with specialist optical sighting and navigation systems to allow for precise aerial mapping routes to be flown. Romania currently operate two examples of this rare and specialised aircraft.
