Eurofighter EF2000

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a multi-role high performance combat aircraft which was a multi-national development between the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain. Achieving its first flight in March 1994, deliveries to the partner nations began in August 2003 and the type first saw combat over Libya during 2010 and 2011. The Typhoon has been subject to constant upgrades throughout its service life and most recently has been earmarked for a new far more advanced radar together with the potential for a new touchscreen cockpit to be installed. The Typhoon can carry a variety of air to ground and air to air weaponry including the Meteor long range air to air missile which is arguably considered the best air to air missile in the world. In addition to the partner nations, the Typhoon is operated by Austria, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

Germany originally took delivery of 143 Eurofighters which replaced the MiG-29A Fulcrum and F-4F Phantom, taking over QRA duties from the Phantom in 2008. Primarily employed in the air defence role, the German Air Force do maintain the multi-role capabilities of the type and are expected to order 38 Tranche 4 specification aircraft to replace the Tornado in the strike and SEAD role to operate alongside the F-35A which will be taking over the nuclear strike role from the Tornado. Germany have been heavily involved in the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission and have deployed to Estonia on numerous occasions. They have also recently been deployed to Eastern Europe in support of the NATO Enhanced Air Policing mission patrolling the Ukrainian-NATO border.

A single German Eurofighter EF2000 will be appearing on static display at this year's Air Tattoo. The aircraft is being provided by TLG73 based at Rostock-Laage airport.
