CASA CN 235 VIGMA

CASA CN-235 VIGMA

The CASA CN-235 is a medium tactical transport aircraft that was co-developed by CASA of Spain and IPTN of Indonesia. The aircraft first flew in 1983 and 354 were eventually produced by both nations. The CN-235 can hold up to 35 to 40 troops or other payloads and is currently operated globally by 28 nations including the USA. A variety of variants have been developed including the AC-235 which can weapons on under-wing pylons and has a side-mounted 30mm cannon.

The Spanish Air and Space Force operates a fleet of nine CN-235 aircraft for maritime patrol and Search and Rescue (SAR) duties. These aircraft are known as the CN-235 VIGMA and differ from standard transport variants through the inclusion of a variety of sensor systems including a sea search radar and electro-optical cameras in addition to two large, bulged windows in the rear fuselage for search personnel and the ability to drop rescue life rafts. In service, Spain designates the type as the D.4.

Joining our static display this July will be a CN-235 VIGMA from the Spanish Air and Space Force as part of our Eyes in the Skies theme.
