Dornier Do 27

Dornier Do 27

The Dornier Do27 is a Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft developed in the mid-1950s for the German military and is based on the Do25 which was marketed to the Spanish Air Force. The aircraft had a large cabin able to carry either four or five passengers which proved popular with operators requiring a general purpose or artillery spotting aircraft. The Do27 also holds the distinction of being the first aircraft to land at Saba Airfield which is the shortest commercial runway on the planet.

Over 420 examples were acquired by the German Air Force and Army who used the type as a general-purpose aircraft and for battlefield reconnaissance. Following their retirement, a number of German examples were sold to other nations, including Portugal.

Now owned by Bruno Stocker, this Dornier 27 will be appearing at RIAT25 as part of our ‘Eyes in the Skies’ theme.
