NH90 NFH
The NH90 was formerly a product of the NHIndustries conglomerate, which is now part of Airbus Helicopters. This multi-role machine is available in two main versions, the TTH (Tactical Transport Helicopter) and NFH (NATO Frigate Helicopter). Developed as a partnership between France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and later Portugal, the NH90 first flew in 1995 and eventually entered service in 2007. Currently 13 nations operate an NH90 variant.
The Qatar Emeri Air Force has a total of 28 NH90s on order and has an anticipated fleet split between 16 TTH and 12 NFH variants. Deliveries of the TTH commenced during 2021 with the NFH following shortly afterwards in early 2022, all deliveries are anticipated to have been completed by 2025. The entire fleet is based at Doha International Air Base which shares facilities with Doha International Airport.
The 8th Squadron of Flying Wing 2 will be providing a single NH90NFH for static display at this year’s Air Tattoo. It is anticipated that the helicopter will arrive as cargo inside the C-17 that is also being provided by the Qatari Emeri Air Force for static display among with other aircraft which will be parked together to mark the 50th anniversary of their air force.
